Developed by Joseph Pilates and brought to the United States in the 1920’s primarily to help injured dancers, Pilates is a whole body exercise modality. Pilates emphasises the development of deep core strength, followed by areas that a typical yoga practise may overlook - including the back, gluteal and hamstring muscles. Pilates allows for repetitive movements, and can be a very demanding practice and a perfect complement to a dynamic Yoga practice and Callisthenics.

Vajrasati Yoga (VS Yoga) most often takes the form of a straightforward Modern Postural Yoga class i.e. body work.
Interwoven into the fabric of the MPY asanas is the spirit of the yoga movement as it has come down to us through its various influences such as Tantra, Raja, Advaita Vedanta and Buddhism.
This is done through the tone of the relationship we have with the practice and through the central premise embodied in the word yoga itself; that the isolation of breath, body, mind, heart, energy is simply a convention which covers a more obvious truth that each of these elements are inseparable parts of one whole experience that has at its heart freedom, joy, wisdom, and bliss.
We encourage non violence (ahimasa), honesty (satya), investigation (svadyaya) as well as using a sense of trust (ishvara pranidhana), or letting go, to find a deeper intuitive connection (yoga) to what we do.
The classes integrate movement, breath, philosophy and humour in a way that leaves you feeling lighter, refreshed and revitalised.
Vajrasati Yoga was founded by Jim Tarran in 2000 and is a Yoga Alliance 500 RYS

‘AcquaViva Yoga’ is an approach to practice that focusses on creating a very precise set of conditions, that will directly awaken you to the potential of the bodies inherent natural intelligence.
It was originally inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli, and over the last 20 years Marc J Acquaviva (aka Marc Woolford), has been working to identify and clarify these conditions in their natural rhythm and sequence, so that the immense depth and efficacy of the work can can be directly experienced by anyone that turns up to a yoga class.
Marc and the AcquaViva teachers regularly use the approach directly to 'solve' joint and other health issues, but the ‘aim’ of practice is simply to develop harmony in all relationships. The expression and meaning of the ‘asana’ arises directly as a natural consequence of practice.
This approach can help expand upon and refine all 'types' of yoga. You will be guided by Marc, and by Abigail Peck, co-founder of AcquaViva School of Yoga, in applying these paradigm-shifting principles to daily practice.
There will be Yoga and Teacher Development Courses running from April 2017. Until then Marc and Abigail will be making themselves available for 121 sessions in the afternoon before class. This will be particularly useful if you have any postural/health issues that you would like to work on resolving, or if you are simply looking for fast-track access to the depth that is on offer.
